Harrison 500-series Compressor
Classic Feed-Forward VCA Compression
The Harrison Comp brings the legendary sound and precision of Harrison’s classic analogue dynamics processing to the 500 Series format. Originally designed to meet the rigorous demands of the broadcast world, the Harrison compressor quickly found its place in music production — prized for its smooth, transparent levelling and powerful musicality.
Though founder Dave Harrison and his long-time collaborator Bruce Swedien were initially sceptical of compression, the need for dynamic control inspired the creation of a circuit so effective it became a studio essential. Subtle and transparent at low gain reduction, yet rich and characterful when pushed harder, the Comp became a key ingredient in the Harrison sound — from vocals and guitars to drums and bass.
Put it on Everything
From gentle, natural dynamics control to punchy, vibe-laden compression, the Comp adapts effortlessly to any source. Use it as a transparent leveller with a low 1:2 ratio and fast release for smooth vocals or acoustic instruments, or drive it harder with higher ratios and slower releases for bold, saturated drum and bass tones. With its classic feed-forward design and musical response, it’s a true all-rounder — the kind of compressor you’ll want to use on everything.
Precision meets musicality
The Comp module employs a THAT 2180 VCA chip for outstanding analogue performance and a program-dependent Attack circuit that dynamically adapts to incoming signal. A continuously variable Release control lets you fine-tune response from fast, modern compression to slow, vintage-style glue. Built with Harrison’s renowned attention to sonic detail, the Comp is designed to deliver both control and character — with the unmistakable warmth and depth of true analogue circuitry.

Legacy in analogue
For over five decades, Harrison consoles have shaped the sound of music history — powering the recordings of Michael Jackson, ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Donald Fagen, among others. Trusted by legendary engineers like Bruce Swedien, Roger Nichols, and Reinhold Mack, Harrison tools have defined the sound of countless platinum records. The Comp 500 Series module continues that lineage — a timeless compressor that captures the spirit and sound of the world’s greatest recordings.
